In Socialist and Communist Nations, Illegal Underground Trade is the Only Real Capitalism

The corruption in Russia is well known when it comes to business endeavors. Still, Russian businesspeople, even though they deal with crime and corruption, graft and extortion, consider themselves entrepreneurs. Indeed in those types of situations, they are the only real entrepreneurs, even if their system is full of corruption.

In Socialist countries, where the government runs everything (or tries too), there are very few real entrepreneurs, however, one could say that those businesses that participate illegally in the underground economy selling contraband are indeed entrepreneurs in their own right. One does not have to condone the illegal activity… Continue reading

The European Union

Among its important functions, the EU has established a common currency (the Euro) between most of its members, has abolished the passport requirements to move throughout the union, and has established a common market and a mutual economic policy.

Any potential applicant seeking to join the… Continue reading

Exposure of Social Media in Ireland

Social media in Ireland is just like every country in the world is taking an absolute hold over the country.  Recent uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya have all stemmed in some part from social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter.  Social media in Ireland has not and will probably never have the same affect on the country and although it may be able to cause such problems as the crashing of parties and maybe verbal and physical attacks, there is no way that social media in Ireland, using Facebook and Twitter as prime examples, will ever… Continue reading

What We Share With Ireland

My wife and I recently returned to New Hampshire from a ten day vacation to County Galway in Ireland. While there I wanted to get a sense of how the global economic decline was impacting the Irish. The news has been that they have been experiencing their own boom and bust story and I wanted to see how it may be similar or different from our own. I found that we share much that is troubling.

Historically, Ireland has not been known as an affluent country. In many ways it never seemed to shake its reputation of a poor… Continue reading

President Obama Says He is Not a Socialist – Well Then What Do You Call Him?

Some folks refuse to believe that President Obama is a socialist, although judging by his gallivanting in Europe after the G-20 Summit meeting, it appears obvious to the rest of us. And let’s not forget the comments to Joe the Plummer during the election process or the concept of only raising taxes on the “wealthy” who President Obama claims are those earning more than 0,000 per year.

And might I add that 0,000 is not going to buy you very much by the time Obama’s administration gets done cutting all the trees to print all that money? So, much… Continue reading
